It's been a while since I updated this thing. Turns out, we've been busy bee's...surprised?! :)
I started back to work last week--it was kind of bittersweet. It's really nice to get out of the house, being able to socialize again. Work is my social network!! Good thing my boss doesn't know about my blog! ;)
Sammy has been doing good. Poor little guy had to have surgery last week. He's such a little trooper.
About that.... Last Saturday, Sammy had a couple episodes where he would projectile vommit across the room. Sean was gone, and it scared the crap out of me. I thought for sure it was something in my milk that was causing him to have a reaction of some sorts, so we started to give him some formula. This worked for a couple of days until Tuesday night and Wednesday. Starting Tuesday night, he was puking everything up again. I was sooo confused. He didn't act sick, he didn't have a fever, he was just puking everything up.
So, I call the clinic on base and the nurse went to talk to the doctor. They give me a call back and say it was something it was Pyloric Stenosis. Told us to go to the ER right away. So, I go pick Sammy up from the sitter. He went to a friends house for a few hours because I had a Dr appt and a few other errands to run. That, and she volunteered :) Anyways, he still hadn't kept anything down. I'm hysterical and crying. Sean decided to meet me over at her house. We go to the ER and OHH MAN! Did Sammy cry or what!
And with that, I cried too. They couldn't find a vein big enough to put his IV's in...and so he cried and cried and cried. And, so did I. :( He was sooo hungry and he was dehydrated from puking everything up. It seemed like we were there forever. They brought the ultrasound techs in to look at his stomach...I knew something was wrong when they said "go get the doctor"...ugh....here we go. The doctor came in and told us he was "positive" for Pyloric Stenosis. They left and another doctor came in and told us we'd have to go to Denver Childrens Hospital for surgery...
Via an ambulance. Sammy got his first ambulance ride. He was sooo good and slept the whole trip down to Denver. So, we get to Denver, have another ultrasound to verify it again. Verified. He was wide awake pretty much throughout this whole thing. He kept giving those pretty nurses googly eyes. We're going to have our hands full, that's for sure!!
He went in for surgery around 12:30am on Friday the 11th. The next 6 hours sucked terribly. He couldn't eat until 4:30 that morning so he screamed pretty much all night/morning. After he was able to eat, it was only 2oz and it was only a teaser for him. He was not happy when he couldn't eat more food than that. I was up all night while Sean was sleeping like an angel at the hotel....grrr! I was so exhausted....we got discharged around 5 that night because Sammy was keeping all of his feedings down. Whew.
I fell asleep on the way home...woke up to eat some chinese food that we had delivered and was in bed by 7:30 that night and slept until 10 that next morning. Sean was up allllllll night with Sammy. He woke up about every 2 hours I guess. Poor little guy, but I slept through the whole night. So glad Sean stayed up with him that night, I wouldn't have been able to because I was so emotionally and physically exhausted. Kudos to all those moms who have to stay in the hospital for weeks and months...You're stronger than I am.
Little man is doing a lot better and back to eating (just about) as much as he was eating before. He's strong like his mommy....his daddy would still be crying in the hospital bed from being in pain!! ;)
